30 Day Recap & Analysis

FOUR KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Launch time-frame (13+ days) was too long. The main problems with the launch all stemmed from this, so it’s important (before you create a single ad) to work from a good strategic framework. The schedule affects every choice going forward. Better to keep it to 5 – 7 (10 max), both for attention/focus and maximizing your budget. When you stretch the launch out over longer periods, it’s hard to keep momentum going, and expensive to do so.
  • Overspent at $6,800. Could have gotten a similar result and banked more profit (and benefited my cash flow) by keeping to around $4,000 and concentrating that in 5 – 7 days. If I wanted to spend more, would have made sense to do a 5 – 7 day launch, then around $50/day for the rest of the month to help the tail.
  • BookBub had more room to scale. This is good to know going forward; the spend here was the hardest I’ve pushed BookBub in urban fantasy. But CPCs and CTRs were still holding strong when I turned the ads off a week or so after the big push. I might have been able to spend $500+ during the big push, and maybe get the box set into the Top 150. Not a big deal and I’m not sure if that would’ve had any impact on the ultimate results; good to know going forward, however.
  • Would try to push Amazon Ads a bit harder. Not sure if these factor into establishing relevance with the algorithm for certain keywords/categories, thus helping with potential stickiness, but it’s something I plan on exploring.
