30 Day Blurb Sprint

CURRENTLY CLOSED

“I feel like I’m treading water with my marketing. I just want to find something that WORKS.”

I know the feeling. Another ads course. Another secret. A new post in a Facebook Group.

But, the truth is, these are mostly just feeding you little tactics that quickly fade in utility in a few months. They’re not teaching you actual principles and skills that will be applicable today…and ten years from now.

There are no sexy tactics here. And I could load this page up with thirty-five minutes of bullshit. But this course is simple, so I’ll save you the reading time:

30 day Blurb Sprint is 30 daily emails, starting May 3. Each email contains a copywriting principle and a link to a blurb to help you practice this principle via hand-copying. Then you write your own blurb.

This takes 30 minutes a day.

At the end of the 30 days, if you do the work, you’ll have written 30 new blurbs. Hand-copied 30 blurbs. And you’ll also:

  1. Understand the heart of marketing: genre and tropes. This is the key to success, and most authors completely whiff. By copying blurbs in different genres, you’ll understand what to include in your books, blurb, and ad copy to speak to your readers.
  2. Be able to study the marketplace like a pro…and identify which books have staying power (and which don’t).
  3. Be able to quickly test your blurbs for actual feedback on what’s working and what isn’t.
  4. Write better ads and blurbs—any place you use ad copy.

Best of all, this is an actual skill that sticks with you. Rather than some random tactic that lives in your notes folder and never gets used. Or when you finally dust it off, you find it no longer works.

COURSE STRUCTURE AND DETAILS

The course starts on Monday, May 3 and runs until June 1. It is delivered entirely via email.

You need to follow along in real-time, so if you don’t have time in May, don’t sign up. That’s because I link to the blurbs on Amazon and the authors can change those at any time. For anyone worrying that they’ll change by the time you receive the email…I’m writing pretty much all the emails in real-time the day before. So that’s not a concern.

The blurbs are in a variety of genres. So you’ll end up copying some thriller blurbs as a romance author or vice-versa. This is to teach genre and tropes, and also lateral thinking (applying concepts across disciplines). If you don’t want to copy blurbs in a number of different genres, don’t join.

Genres included:

  • Romance
  • Paranormal Romance
  • Thriller
  • Mystery
  • Epic Fantasy
  • Urban Fantasy
  • Science Fiction

Structure*:

  1. Week 1: Formulas
  2. Week 2: Structure
  3. Week 3: Tropes
  4. Week 4: Style

Woven throughout the course will be five emails on how to test your blurbs.

*this may change. The listed content will be covered, but if I come up with an order / structure that I think works better, I’ll use that.

REFUND POLICY

There are no refunds. It’s pretty clear what this is; if you don’t want to hand copy a bunch of blurbs for 30 days, don’t join.

FAQ

Will you be running this course again?

Probably not, because I link to the blurbs on Amazon rather than embed them in the email. This means I’d have to update a lot of stuff if I run it again.

Couldn’t I just copy blurbs on my own for free?

Yes. I’ve hammered home this exercise for years, and I don’t think anyone’s done it for 30 days. Hence this course.

Also, I’ve written a lot of ads and managed ads for numerous Top 100 books. It’s easy to hand-copy blurbs that are garbage or fool’s gold. This course will weed those out and also train your marketing eye.

Will you give me feedback on my blurbs?

No. The purpose of this course is to teach you the principles + skills to write and test your own blurbs. My opinion doesn’t matter. Data does.

How long will I have access to the course?

The course is delivered via email, so you can read the emails any time you want. I recommend doing it in real-time, as the linked blurbs might change. If I share any videos or additional resources (note to be 100% transparent + clear: none are currently planned), those will be available until December 31, 2021.
